Hecla Mining Buys South Carolina Firm

From Staff And Wire Reports

Hecla Mining Co. has bought a kaolin mine in Langley, S.C., and plans to relocate employees from another kaolin plant to the new mine.

Coeur d’Alene-based Hecla purchased the Langley processing facility and mine from J.M. Huber Corp. The price was reported to be less than $10 million.

Kaolin is an industrial material used in making paper and china products. Hecla’s subsidiary Kentucky-Tennessee Clay Co. will manage the Langley operation.

The move increases K-T Clay’s product line and increases efficiency for the company’s kaolin operations, the company said. , DataTimes
