Sandpoint Man Run Over In Crosswalk

From Staff And Wire Reports

An 87-year-old Sandpoint man is in critical condition after he was struck by a car while crossing First Street.

Leland White was hit in the crosswalk near Main Street about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. Authorities said White, who was walking with a cane, was about halfway across the street. He was run over by a Chevy Blazer driven by Samuel Wagner, 82, also of Sandpoint.

Wagner drove about a block before stopping and told authorities he did not see White in the street and didn’t even know he hit anything.

Wagner’s driver’s license was seized.

White suffered severe head and chest injuries. He was taken to Bonner General Hospital and later airlifted to a Spokane hospital.
