Moving On

Here’s a sampling of successful North Idaho College athletes in the last three decades, including their hometown, and what they’ve done after leaving NIC:

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Lewis Lofton, of Centralia, Wash., went on to start at Weber State, NCAA Tournament qualifier in 1995;

Guis Guigijs, The Netherlands, went on to Southern Colorado, plays professional ball in The Netherlands and works for Hewlett-Packard;

Dick Schultz, Post Falls, went on to Washington State University, now a high school teacher in Spokane (also participated in NIC track and baseball).

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Angela Joyce, Geraldine, Mont., went on to Eastern Montana University, now is head of major league baseball videos in New York City;

Jocelyn Pfeifer, Post Falls, went on to Boise State, was voted all-Big Sky, now is assistant coach at Eastern Washington University.

WRESTLING

Pat Whitcomb, Grandview, Mich., went on to the University of Oklahoma, then Western Montana, now coaches and teaches at Lake City High;

Frank Velasquez, Chelan, Wash., went to the University of Nebraska and was an NCAA Tournament qualifier.

BASEBALL

Chris Clark, Sandpoint, went on to the University of Idaho, now is owner of Clark Oil Co. in Coeur d’Alene (also played basketball at NIC);

Monroe Greenfield, Coeur d’Alene, went on to Gonzaga University, played Class AAA professional baseball.

VOLLEYBALL

Paula Hooper, Coeur d’Alene, went on to Lewis-Clark State College, now works for Lewiston Police Department.

TRACK

Dusty Mavity, Kellogg, national junior college meet qualifier this year.
