Abc, Nbc Split Series
The World Series matchup is set, at least in the broadcast booth: Bob Costas, Bob Uecker and Joe Morgan vs. Al Michaels, Tim McCarver and Jim Palmer.
The postseason became the Battle of the Network Stars when The Baseball Network said ABC and NBC will split the coverage.
Under the unique arrangement, forced when last October’s action was wiped out by the strike, ABC will show Games 1, 4 and 5 of the World Series. NBC gets Games 2, 3 and 6.
Who will show Game 7, however, is still undecided.
“It might well be a coin flip,” said Ken Schanzer, president of The Baseball Network. “We don’t want to trivialize it, but that’s what it might come down to.”
ABC, with Michaels doing play-by-play, and NBC, with Costas its main man, will similarly share the divisional series - the first under the expanded postseason format - and the league playoffs.
The two sets of divisional series begin Oct. 3. The league playoffs start Oct. 10. The World Series begins Oct. 21. Telecasts for all weekend games during the postseason begin at 4 p.m on the West Coast. Weeknight shows start at 5 p.m.
Dick Stockton, a veteran voice of professional basketball, will join TNT and TBS next season to call NBA regular-season and playoff games in a multiyear deal, Turner Sports announced.
