Police Searching For Attack Dogs

From Staff And Wire Reports

Police were looking Monday for two Rottweiler dogs that attacked an Oregon woman Sunday near Spirit Lake.

Mary Palmquist and her husband, Steven, were walking along a road when the dogs charged her.

“They were just out for a walk, and the dogs came out of the bushes. No teasing, no nothing,” said Kootenai County sheriff’s Deputy Dusty Rhoads.

Rhoads said one dog bit the woman’s right upper arm, tearing it up. She was taken to Kootenai Medical Center, treated and released.

“It looked to be pretty severe muscle damage,” Rhoads said.

Steven Palmquist told investigators he kicked the other dog away. The attack stopped when a man in a Jeep pulled up and called off the dogs.

Rhoads said he’s looking for the dogs and their owner. The animals will be quarantined for 10 days to see if they have rabies, he said, but he says he’s not yet sure if he can press criminal charges against the owners.

The Palmquists, from Lake Oswego, Ore., could not be reached for comment.
