Dutch Nun Shot To Death In Brazil

Compiled From Wire Services

A Dutch nun, who had worked with the poor in northeastern Brazil for the past 28 years, was fatally shot in her home, police said Monday.

Martiniana Johanna Manders, 69, was shot Sunday in the house she shared with other nuns in the city of Palmeiras dos Indios, 1,200 miles northeast of Sao Paulo.

“So far, we have no idea who the murderer is or why she was killed,” said a police officer.
