Holyfield-Bowe Iii Close
Evander Holyfield went to bed thinking he had a third fight with Riddick Bowe, only to find out that Bowe’s manager was to announce a match with Tommy Morrison.
By late Thursday afternoon, however, it appeared chances were good that he and Bowe would get together Nov. 4 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
Madison Square Garden officials had planned to hold a news conference at 3 p.m. EDT to announce a Bowe-Morrison fight Oct. 7 in the Garden.
At 2:40 p.m., the news conference was canceled.
“The Bowe-Morrison fight is not on,” said Lou DiBello, senior vice president of pay-per-view TVKO.
TVKO will distribute the BoweHolyfield fight if it is made. It also would have carried the Bowe-Morrison fight.
It was believed that Time Warner, which operates TVKO and HBO, pressured Rock Newman to have Bowe fight Holyfield.
