Sas Knocks Off Kc Stars 8-7

Paul Maclendon’s two-run triple capped a five-run fifth inning as Spokane Athletic Supply rallied to defeat the KC Stars 8-7 in American Legion baseball at Al K. Jackson Field Sunday afternoon.

Also at Shadle, Collin Fiddes’ ninth-inning RBI single was the game-winner as Spokane Federal Credit Union beat Chapter Eleven/Longhorn Barbecue 7-6.

At Clarkston, Andy Potter struck out 14 and drove in a run as Washington Trust Bank defeated PAC 2-1 in the opener of their doubleheader. In the nightcap, Jason Emery had a two-run single as PAC won 11-6.

Justin Williams had two RBIs and three hits as Maxwell House trounced the Chewelah North Stars 12-2 in the first game of their doubleheader at Chewelah. In the nightcap, Maxwell House committed five errors in a four-run fifth inning, helping Chewelah win 5-3.

Pony League Baseball

Jimmy Hryniewicz’s single in the ninth inning lifted the Spokane Athletic Supply Panthers to a 4-2 victory over the Valley American All-Stars in the Pony League District Championship game.

Ryan Pugh and Kent Hibbard combined for 15 strikeouts and allowed just four hits as SAS earned a berth in the state tournament, which begins Thursday in Bellevue.

Tennis

Eric Jacobson and Karen Boshuff captured the individual singles titles at the Inland Empire Championships at the Spokane Racquet Club.

Jacobson, from Seattle, defeated Pullman’s Steve Koon 6-4, 6-2 in the championship. Boshuff, a native of South Africa, beat Seattle’s Erica Perkins 7-5, 2-6, 2-6.

Spokane’s Bill Wagstaff captured the men’s 35 singles and mixed doubles championships. John Radclifff, Tom Loucks, Julie Scott, Marie Ryerse, Kent Brennan, Ed Keil and Nancy Slaughter, all from Spokane, also earned titles.

Car racing

Spokane’s Rick Schultz finished sixth at Saturday’s $23,125 NASCAR REB-CO Northwest Tour Budweiser 150 at the South Sound Speedway’s -mile paved oval in Tenino, Wash.

Garrett Evans, from Ardenvoir, Wash., finished first, averaging 62.65 miles per hour.

Schultz earned $950.
