Unnatural Acts In Office Place

Chicago Tribune

“From a biological perspective, we were not created or designed for office work,” says a new report with the heading, “Work at VDTs is Unnatural.”

The study by ergonomist Stewart B. Leavitt says monitor placement at eye level and arms length is all wrong.

“What is needed is a more ergonomically flexible and adjustable approach to VDT monitor and reference document positioning, taking into account the worker’s physical size and vision capabilities, the VDT-oriented tasks being performed, the quality of the VDT monitor and reference materials used and environmental concerns such as lighting and workstation arrangements.”
