Frenchman Retains Lead
Frenchman Laurent Jalabert held to his overall lead in the Tour de France when his ONCE team finished second in a team time trial.
The Italian team Gewiss won the 41.6-mile race in 1 hour, 13 minutes, 10 seconds.
The ONCE team was 35 seconds behind and allowed Jalabert to maintain an eight-second lead over Italian Ivan Gotti and Bjarne Riis of Denmark, two riders with Gewiss.
Miguel Indurain of Spain, seeking his fifth consecutive title on the Tour, was on the Banesto team that finished third, 59 seconds behind Gewiss.
