Scientists Trying To Find Why Eagles In Wisconsin Are Dying

Associated Press

Two more bald eagles have died in Wisconsin, bringing to nine the number of eagles that have died there this year.

One eagle died Thursday a few hours after being found near Poynette in south-central Wisconsin. The remains of another were found about 25 miles away.

Veterinarian Joe Kelly said two other sick eagles were brought to his Prairie du Sac office this week suffering from seizures. He said they seemed better after he treated them with Valium.

Pathologists at the the National Wildlife Health Research Center in Madison are trying to determine what’s killing the eagles.

The largest cluster of bald eagle deaths was near Bismarck, Ark., where 24 bald eagles died from November to January.
