Post Falls Charges By Cda

Post Falls wanted a track-meet pace, but the Trojans had trouble getting their steps down when Coeur d’Alene threw a few hurdles in their path.

The Trojans finally got untracked in the fourth quarter, sprinting away from the slowed, tired Vikings 78-56 in an Inland Empire League boys basketball game Saturday at Viking Gym.

Post Falls kept pace with the league leaders with the win as the Trojans moved to 4-2 and 15-3 overall. First-place Lake City edged Sandpoint 51-50 on Saturday while Lewiston (4-2) was idle.

Coeur d’Alene fell to 2-5, 3-15.

In a game that went back and forth for 2-1/2 quarters, the Trojans finally started to assert control late in the third period.

A 7-2 spurt allowed Post Falls to break a 50-50 tie and take a 57-52 lead into the final quarter.

Then CdA, which suffered a severe scoring drought in the first quarter the night before at Lake City, couldn’t find the basket for nearly six minutes in the fourth period.

Sprinting by the Viks repeatedly in transition, Post Falls used a 16-0 run to break open the game.

A layup by Chris Pederson at the 1:30 mark ended the Post Falls streak. By then it was too late for the Viks, who trailed 73-56.

“When the game started, we came out and tried to do too much,” Post Falls coach Scott Moore said. “But we didn’t try hard together. Obviously, you saw the results. In the fourth quarter, we settled down and got into more of an offensive flow and into our game.”

Ryan Edmonds led Post Falls with 17 points, nine in the second half. Tim Roberts had 15, Mike McLean added 14, with 12 coming in the second half, and Darick Pope added 12.

Pederson created most of CdA’s offense in the first half, scoring 22 of his game-high 27 points. He scored from everywhere - the free-throw line, behind the 3-point arc and driving to the basket.

His 14 first-half points keyed CdA’s second-quarter rally that saw the Viks tie the game going into halftime at 36-36.

But the Trojans played better defense on Pederson in the second half.

Moore praised the Viks’ overall effort.

“They worked their backsides off; they did some great things,” Moore said.
