Nic Women Put Away Colorado Northwestern
College women
When he returned to the court following the halftime break, North Idaho College women’s basketball coach Greg Crimp was informed by official statistician Bob Ely that he had four timeouts remaining - and a broken hand.
The remark about the hand was a joke. But needless to say, Crimp was not a happy man despite a 44-23 lead. Just before the half he slammed his hand down on the scoring table in frustration over his team’s poor play.
He had watched his Cardinals play a lethargic 4 minutes during which NIC was outscored 10-6 by lowly Colorado Northwestern (0-12 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play).
The Cardinals and Crimp’s hand got better - NIC’s scoring table will feel it in the morning.
NIC (6-7 SWAC, 10-12 overall) recovered from the doldrums to post a 90-54 win over the Spartans at Christianson Gym in Coeur d’Alene, Saturday night.
NIC picked up its defensive intensity and ran the Spartans out of the game with a 17-6 spurt midway through the second half to make it 72-36.
“I wasn’t too happy at times with our offensive execution,” said Crimp. “We were trying to get some people points.
“We had several goals before the game and we reached most of those. We still had too many turnovers, but it’s hard to keep up that level of intensity.”
NIC was led in scoring by Michelle Greenwood with 17 points and Rebecca Suter with 15, but Crimp was especially pleased with the play of his bench - particularly Angie Dickson and Brandy Ross. The two combined for 20 points and Ross contributed eight rebounds.
NIC had a 55-31 rebounding advantage.
