Mazda Plans To Slash Canadian Work Force

Mazda Motor Corp. said last week its Canadian importing and distributing unit will lay off 30 percent of its work force, cutting 62 jobs, following sharp declines in sales.

A Mazda spokesman said car sales at the Mazda Canada Inc. unit fell to less than 44,000 units in 1994 from 55,000 in the peak year of 1992.
