Checkpoint Clash

Associated Press

Bosnian Croats told U.N. officials they were involved Thursday in a shootout, apparently with Islamic fighters, that caused casualties on both sides.

U.N. spokesman Alexander Ivanko said Croats told U.N. monitors that a carload of Islamic fighters ran through a Croat checkpoint near Zepce in central Bosnia.

Croatian TV reported that five of the fighters were killed.
