St. Maries’ Pressure Produces First Victory

Girls basketball

The St. Maries High School girls basketball team used all-court pressure to earn its first Intermountain League victory Friday, 61-35 over Lakeland at Rathdrum.

The Lumberjacks (1-2 in league, 3-4 overall) led from start to finish and outscored the Hawks (1-1, 1-5) in every quarter.

St. Maries guard Bryna Reynolds scored a game-high 23 points and led the Lumberjacks’ presses. She finished with eight steals. Lumberjacks post Amanda Tams added 10 points and eight rebounds.

Jamie Harwood led Lakeland with 11 points.

Moscow 48, Pullman 23

Moscow took a short trip across the border to Pullman and came away with a non-league victory.

Jenny Moslemi led the No. 1 ranked A-2 Bears (8-1) with 14 points. Moslemi also had nine of Moscow’s 30 steals.

Leah Wilde had 14 points for the Greyhounds in a losing effort. Pullman was hurt by 7-of-33 shooting from the field.

Wallace overcame visiting Potlach for its second victory of the season.

Joy Sperry scored a game-high 24 points for the Miners. Potlach jumped out to an 18-8 lead in the first quarter but couldn’t hold it. The Loggers were led by Jenna Rauch with 29 points.

Audrey Wallace scored off two offensive rebounds in overtime to lead visiting Falls Christian of Post Falls over Valley Christian in the non-league game.

Teammate Sarah Peterson tied the game with 16 seconds left in regulation, sending the game into overtime when she made two foul shots.

Peterson led the winners with 18 points. Wallace added 14 and 10 rebounds. Carmen Evans led Valley Christian with 11 points.
