Arkansas Blocks Missouri’s Path

Jesse Pate, a question mark because of a sprained knee, made two straight 3-pointers during a 16-3 run that helped Arkansas hand 11th-ranked Missouri its first loss Tuesday night 104-93 at Fayetteville, Ark.
That spurt put Arkansas (4-2) in front by 92-75, but Jason Sutherland’s four-point play completed a nine-point run by the Tigers (4-1) with 3:02 left.
Arkansas set a school record with 18 blocked shots, including six by Derek Hood.

At Miami, Villanova blew a nine-point lead in the final 53 seconds before Kerry Kittles hit a layup with 1.8 seconds left to lift the ranked Wildcats (6-0, 2-0 Big East) past the Hurricane (3-1, 1-1).
The Wildcats are off to their best start since 1984-85, when they won the national championship. Their No. 2 ranking is the highest in school history.

At Tucson, Ariz., Joseph Blair scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Wildcats (6-0) shook off some early trouble and defeated the Grizzlies (5-1).
The Wildcats struggled early as Montana took a 12-11 lead with 13 minutes to go in the first half, but Arizona came back with 10 unanswered points, including two baskets by Blair.

At Memphis, Tenn., Mingo Johnson and Lorenzen Wright scored 25 points each, and Wright grabbed 17 rebounds to lead the Tigers (4-0) to a win over Panthers (0-3).

At Starkville, Miss., Darryl Wilson scored 26 points to pace three 20-point scorers and the Bulldogs (4-0) set a school scoring record in win over the Trojans (1-4).

At Cedar Falls, Iowa, Jess Settles scored 14 of his season-high 20 points in the first half to help the Hawkeyes (6-1) get the lead and hold on to beat the Panthers (2-1).

At Charlottesville, Va., Malik Evans had 19 points and 11 rebounds and guard Frank Seckar had five 3-pointers in scoring 17 points as the Commodores (5-1) stunned the Cavaliers (2-3).

At Baton Rouge, La., freshman Louis Bullock rebounded a missed free throw, drove the length of the court and sank a 12-footer with 3.8 seconds left to give the Wolverines (6-2) a win over the Tigers (2-3). Bullock got the ball when LSU’s Landers Nolley missed two foul shots. LSU had a final chance with 3 seconds left but turned the ball over on an out-of-bound call.
