Blacks Can’t Sue To Get Reparations

Blacks cannot sue the federal government for damages or an apology for slavery and racial discrimination, a federal appeals court ruled Monday.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, in its 3-0 ruling, reached the same conclusion as scores of lower-court judges who have considered similar reparations claims.

The seven plaintiffs cannot seek damages for the enslavement of their ancestors, cannot require the courts to correct allegedly discriminatory acts by Congress, and failed to point to specific government actions that violated their rights, said the opinion by Judge Pamela Rymer.

The suit, one of a group of similar claims filed in recent years, sought more than $100 million in damages.
