Get Taste Of Hot Music With Summer Jam ‘95

Joe Ehrbar Correspondent

Seattle’s pop music radio station KUBE has assembled a giant lineup for its Summer Jam ‘95 music fest being held at The Gorge on Monday.

The purpose of the music festival, now in its third year, is to showcase some of the biggest chart toppers in pop music. This year’s acts include edgy rappers Naughty By Nature and the Bloodhound Gang, female R&B superstars Brandy, Monica and Diana King, reggae and hip-hop melder Shaggy, vocal balladeers UNV and Second Nature, female vocal groups Mokenstef and Brownstone, and crafty hip-hopper Skee-Lo.

Naughty By Nature, known for the smashes “O.P.P.” and “Hip-Hop Hooray,” headlines the daylong event.

In June, Naughty By Nature followed its first two ground-breaking, multiplatinum albums, “Naughty By Nature” and “19 Naughty III,” with “Poverty’s Paradise.” In its first week on the streets, the album cleared more than 100,000 units and debuted at the No. 3 slot on the Billboard charts.

One of Summer Jam’s other big draws is teenage R&B starlet Brandy.

At 16, Brandy has already sold more than 2 million copies of her self-titled debut album and hatched two Billboard top-10 singles - “Baby” and “I Wanna Be Down.”

Shaggy offers some worldly diversity. The 26-year-old from Kingston, Jamaica, churns out dance-hall-style reggae music.

Skee-Lo should do well with the crowd. The up-and-coming artist blends contagious, funky hip-hop with witty lyrics.
