Rosauers Bags Gonzaga’s Fitz For Cancer Fund-Raiser
Gonzaga University athletic director and head men’s basketball coach Dan Fitzgerald will join the American Cancer Society and Rosauers Supermarkets in the fight against cancer Tuesday.
Fitzgerald will be a celebrity bagger at the Rosauers at 1724 W. Francis from 4-6 p.m. All eight Spokane Rosauers will donate 5 percent of Tuesday’s sales to the American Cancer Society.
“I can’t be held responsible for the broken eggs or the squashed bread,” Fitzgerald said. “Seriously, this is a worthwhile cause. Cancer will probably have some impact on all of us in our lifetime - either through the loss of a loved one or being afflicted with it ourselves.”
Fitzgerald, who was also an active spokesperson in the American Cancer Society/National Association of Basketball Coaches “Coaches Against Cancer” fund-raiser this past season, was diagnosed with skin cancer in 1993 which required one surgery on his jaw, and another on his temple to remove nonmalignant tissue. He’s had no major complications since.
