Recalling Roosevelt

Fifty years ago Wednesday, the Inland Northwest mourned the death of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. In his 12 years as president, FDR changed the Northwest more than any other president before or since.

From the Columbia River’s dams to Spokane’s aluminum plants, changes set in motion by the New Deal and World War II changed the way this region’s people lived and how they worked.

On Wednesday, The Spokesman-Review will recall FDR and his legacy to the nation and the Inland Northwest.
