Lake City Ties Cheney In Soccer

Lake City and Cheney tied 1-1 in soccer Thursday.

Neither team scored in the first half although the Timberwolves (4-2) outshot the Blackhawks (5-2-2) 10-2.

In the second half, the Blackhawks scored first when Levi Luhn knocked the ball in, on a Mike Kisslinger assist.

Thirteen minutes later, the Timberwolves’ Mike Thompson scored on a Robin Bundy assist after beating a defender.

John Montecucco’s outstanding defensive effort at sweeper for Cheney kept the Timberwolves in check despite their 21 shots on goal.

NIC baseball

North Idaho College and Ricks College, co-leaders in Region 18 North Division baseball, tangle in Coeur d’Alene with a doubleheader today at 1 and a single game Saturday at noon.

NIC (2-1, 12-13), is batting .300 as a team and has won five of its last six. Tristan Fike leads NIC with a .409 batting average. Pitchers Steve Schorzman (4-1, 2.50 ERA) and Mark Nelson (2-3, 3.20) will start today’s games.

Ricks (2-1, 20-12) won the North Division last year and is ranked No. 20 nationally.

WSU football

The Washington State football team will play its annual Crimson and White spring football game Saturday in front of a Moms’ Weekend crowd in Pullman’s Martin Stadium.

Mike Levenseller will coach the Crimson squad and Jim Zeches will coach the White squad. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.

Following the scrimmage, fans will be invited to join the team on the field for autographs and photos.

Spring drills, which began on March 9, will conclude April 13.

GSL baseball

Led by Mike Dacquisto’s two RBIs off three hits, Gonzaga Prep bettered host University (3-2) 8-3 to improve its record to 4-0.

The Bullpups’ Matt Comfort added two RBIs off two hits as the Bullpups outhit the Titans 13-3.

In other GSL games, North Central held on to beat Central Valley 4-2, Shadle Park shut out Lewis and Clark 7-0 and Rogers outlasted Mead 6-2.

U-Hi’s three runs came in the third inning when, with the bases loaded, Bullpups’ pitcher Andy Potter threw three-straight passed balls.
