Minnesota Wild captain Jared Spurgeon admitted before the season that the back and hip surgeries that ended his 2023-24 season would require daily maintenance throughout 2024-25, and sure enough, on Thursday general manager and team president Bill Guerin confirmed that the reason Spurgeon has missed the past two games was indeed related to last season's injuries.

Three months ago, Spokane Chief Berkly Catton signed his Seattle Kraken contract after the center was selected in the first round of the National Hockey League entry draft. He was reassigned to the Chiefs for the upcoming WHL season.

The promotional giveaways for goals scored at the Arena Saturday night were plentiful – enough to make several meals worth of various fast food items.

Shea Van Olm and Mathis Preston scored two goals apiece and the Spokane Chiefs held off a late flurry to beat the Kelowna Rockets 5-3 in a Western Hockey League Western Conference game at the Arena on Friday.

The Spokane Chiefs kicked off the 2024-25 season – their 40th as a member of the Western Hockey League – with a three-game road trip, splitting a pair against last year’s regular-season champion Prince George, then topping Wenatchee 6-3 on Friday.
