The Supreme Court on Friday rejected the most severe charges lodged against more than 300 of the violent insurrectionists who broke into the Capitol three years ago. 

It’s been 3 1/2 years since thousands of people marched from a rally by then-President Donald Trump to the U.S. Capitol, where many of them stayed for hours, fighting with police and parading through the building, delaying the certification of the presidential election and forcing members of Congress to flee.

The Supreme Court cast doubt Tuesday on the legality of obstruction charges lodged against some 300 rioters arrested for breaking into the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

A Kentucky man who was labeled as the first person to breach the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection has been found guilty by a federal jury for his actions during the riot, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

A 44-year-old Proud Boy sentenced to six years in prison for storming the U.S. Capitol told the judge he’d “do it all over again.” Marc Bru, who accused the U.S. court system of committing “war crimes” against him by putting him on trial, remained defiant Wednesday when he was handed his prison term, according to Washington D.C. station WUSA.  

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia appeared inclined during a hearing Tuesday to reject former President Trump's claims that he is immune from prosecution on criminal charges that he plotted to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
