What happened: Teryn Gardner scored 29 points and the fourth-seeded Panthers (20-3) beat the sixth-seeded Spartans (13-6) in a 3A state quarterfinal at the Tacoma Dome on Thursday. Ellalee Wortham led Stanwood with 16 points. Mead advances to play top-seeded Garfield in a semifinal Friday, while Stanwood will play Lakeside (Seattle) in a loser-out.
