What happened: Addison Wells-Morrison scored 21 points, Teryn Gardner added 13 and the top-seeded Panthers (24-1) beat the visiting eighth-seeded Rams (19-2) in a 3A state opening-round game on Saturday at West Valley High School. Soraya Ogaldez led North Thurston with 17 points, Grace Lee added 14. Reese Frederick scored 11 for Mead. Mead will advance to a quarterfinal on Wednesday, with their opponent still to be determined.
