Freeman continued its winning ways, defeating Newport 2-1 to secure a spot at state. Kasey Christiansen scored in the first half to give the Scotties the lead. Laura Ruby extended the lead in the second half with a goal of her own. Newport finally scored right at the end of the match on a goal by Kennedy Kindred. With the win, Freeman moves on to play the winner of the Lakeside vs. Riverside match tomorrow at 7 p.m. at Gonzaga Prep. With the loss Newport's season comes to a close.

Emily Lewis scored two goals to push Newport past visiting Riverside 2-1 on Thursday in a Northeast A girls soccer game. The senior midfielder opened the scoring in the 32nd minute from the penalty spot. She put the Grizzlies up 2-0 when she finished off an individual goal two minutes before the hour mark.
