What happened: Alyssa Melendez hit two home runs and knocked in three for the game and the top-seeded Riverhawks (22-3) edged the seventh-seeded Panthers (16-5) in the State 4A championship game at Gateway Sports Complex in Yakima on Saturday. Mead rallied for four runs in the sixth inning, with Jaycee Coffield and Hope Murdock delivering two-run hits, but the Panthers couldn't find the equalizer. Chiawana won its fourth consecutive state title.

What happened: Layla Larsen went 4 for 5 with a double, home run and five RBIs and the seventh-seeded Panthers (15-4) built a large lead and held off the second-seeded Storm (17-2) in a State 4A first-round game at Gateway Sports Complex in Yakima on Friday. Larsen hit an RBI double in the first inning, an RBI single in the second, a two-run homer in the third and an RBI single in the fourth.
