In a game to end the season or advance to the State 4A boys basketball tournament, Mead had a shot to tie in the final seconds. Mead senior Max Hess launched the shot, but the ball rimmed in and out and sent Central Valley into the final round of 16 teams with a 54-51 hard-fought win over the Greater Spokane League rival Panthers. Steven Beo scored 35 points, and Richland held off Mead in a wild 4A subregional championship game Friday at Richland. The Bombers at one point held a 19-point first-half lead, but the Panthers stormed back to take a 50-49 lead after three quarters. The game was tied at 60 with just over three minutes left, but Beo and the Bombers pulled away late with free throws. Max Hess scored 25 points to lead the Panthers, including eight in Mead's 25-11 third quarter. Josh Richter added 12 points. …
