1A boys: Freeman can’t get shots to fall, loses title game to King’s

YAKIMA – Freeman didn’t have enough to slow down powerful defending champion King’s and the Scotties fell to the Knights, 80-39, in the Class 1A state championship game Saturday night in the Yakima Valley SunDome. Freeman’s second-place finish is the best in school history. The Scotties finished the year 22-4.

Corey Kispert brought in 29 points for King's in their 80-39 victory over Freeman in the State 1A championship match. Cole Mitchell earned 11 points for King's, while teammate Koa Wilkins also scored 11 points. Michael Coumont, Nate Jacobus and Ryan Maine each brought in 11 points for Freeman in their loss to King's. Freeman earns second place in the State 1A championship, while King's finishes in first place.

Freeman exploded for 22 points in the fourth quarter and topped Kalama 58-52 to advance to the state title game at the Yakima Valley SunDome on Friday night. Michael Coumont scored a team-high 19 points and Ryan Maine added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Scotties. Kalama was led by Hunter Esary, who poured in a game-high 25 points. Freeman faces King's in the championship game at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Kalama takes on King's Way Christian in the third place game at 11:15 a.m.
