State 2A: Top-ranked East Valley girls lose; Clarkston boys in title game

The top-ranked East Valley’s girls team will have a chance to play for the highest basketball finish in school history today, but not for the trophy they envisioned.

The Black Hills Wolves battled through first-half woes to top Clarkston, 52-46 in the 2A girls state subregional tournament, Saturday afternoon. The Wolves’ Emma Duff scores 18 of her game-high 23 points after halftime to lead Black Hills to the comeback victory by erasing a nine-point deficit after intermission. Black Hills advances to the championship rounds of the State 2A tournament in Yakima.

Riley Denton led Clarkston with 15 points in their 61-47 playoff victory over Selah. Jayd Eke and Sequoia Swan both scored 11 points for Clarkston, and Jessica Lohman and Jaclyn Meyers each scored eight points. With this victory, Clarkston moves on to the next round of the playoffs, while Selah is eliminated from the playoffs.
