What happened: Alyssa Melendez hit two home runs and knocked in three for the game and the top-seeded Riverhawks (22-3) edged the seventh-seeded Panthers (16-5) in the State 4A championship game at Gateway Sports Complex in Yakima on Saturday. Mead rallied for four runs in the sixth inning, with Jaycee Coffield and Hope Murdock delivering two-run hits, but the Panthers couldn't find the equalizer. Chiawana won its fourth consecutive state title.
