The Dragons had an issue with ball security for the second game in a row, but solid shooting and strong rebounding propelled them to third place in the state 2B tournament.
Mia Smith led SG’s with 12 points, but it was her fellow frontcourt teammate Shayla Melendez who grabbed nine boards to lead both teams.
Melissa Lee scored 29 points to lead the Tigers on 11 for 27 shooting.
It was a tightly contested game with multiple lead changes. Napavine had the lead for most of the game, but the Dragons grabbed it midway through the third quarter and they rode the momentum to the finish.
Saint George’s secured it’s 12th state trophy, moving them into a tie with the Reardan Indians for most among active 2B teams.
Napavine won its first-ever fifth place-finish.
