Summary

The goal was simple for the Bulldogs. Stop standout freshman Talia Von oelhoffen.

And for the most part, they did.

Von oelhoffen, a 6-foot-6 point guard, scored 16 points, well below her season average of 29.5 points a game. They also kept her off the boards, allowing her to only grab four rebounds after averaging 12 per game this season.

Colfax made it a priority to slow the Division I prospect down. Double teams began when the ball was inbounded and continued down the floor. The other three Bulldogs played zone, forcing cross-court passes.

The Bulldogs leaned on their own DI prospect, senior Carmen Gfeller. She poured in 32 points on 12 for 17 shooting and was a perfect 5 for 5 from the line. Point guard Piper Cai added 13 points with a team-high eight rebounds.

Colfax advances to play seventh-seeded Saint George’s in the State 2B quarterfinals on Friday at 3:45 p.m.

Tri-Cities Prep plays top-seeded Ilwaco at 9 a.m.
