Summary

Lamont Butler forced overtime with a second-half goal and made the game-winning penalty kick in a shootout victory for Ferris in a 4A subregional boys soccer match against visiting Hanford on Wednesday.

Liam Kelly scored the lone first-half goal in the 36th minute, giving the Saxons a 1-0 lead at the break. After Ross Kieffer and Joseph Stout gave Hanford two early second-half goals and the lead, Ferris benefitted from a goalkeeper miscue in the 60th minute. Butler knocked a free kick from 60 yards, which bounced over the head of the Falcons' keeper and evened the match.

After two scoreless overtime periods, Ferris held a 4-3 edge in the shootout after goals from Lamont Butler, Max Thompson, Brett Freshler and Hiroo Furukawa, when Saxon goalkeeper Jadon Bowton made a stop on a straight shot. Evan Giem clinched the win with the final shootout goal.

Ferris will travel to Pasco on Friday for a regional matchup with the Bulldogs.
