Summary

Marquel Waugh put up 15 points, and Taholah edged Mt. Vernon Christian 51-49 Friday in a 1B consolation matchup at Spokane Arena.

The Chitwins (16-10) trailed 29-21 at the half but surged in the third and took a 35-34 lead on Waugh's shot late in the third. Patricia Charley then made three straight shots, including a 3-pointer, and Taholah looked to be pulling away.

Grace Kuipers kept the Hurricanes (18-11) in the game, as she scored 13 fourth-quarter points, including a trey to cut the lead to two and then layup moments later to tie the game at 49 with just under a minute on the clock.

Taholah turned to Karleena Walther on the next possession, and she was fouled and made both shots, and MVC couldn't get a shot off in the final seconds.

Charley finished with 11 points, while Walther netted 10. Kuipers led all players with 32 points and 10 rebounds.
