Summary

St. Maries used its advantage in the post to build an early lead and the Lumberjacks went on to defeat Coeur d'Alene Charter 67-39 in an opening-round game of the 2A Region I tournament at Troy, Idaho.

The Lumberjacks' game plan was to work the ball inside and post players Brady Martin and Nate Masterson responded. Martin had 14 points and 7 rebounds. Masterson had 8 points and 5 rebounds. The first half was key as St. Maries built a 38-17 lead.

Point guard Dakota Wilson added 7 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the Lumberjacks.

Jacob Rutherford scored 13 points to lead the Panthers.

CdA Charter will play Grangeville in a loser-out game Tuesday at 6 p.m. St. Maries plays Orofino in a semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Both games are at Troy.
