Summary

The Emerald Ridge Jaguars (19-9) rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat the Central Valley Bears 3-2 in a State 4A volleyball opener at Toyota Center in Kennewick. The Jaguars scored five consecutive points in the fourth game to wipe out a 19-18 deficit and scored the final three points of the fifth game to move on to meet Puyallup (20-13) in Friday night's quarterfinals. The Bears (25-7) overcame a long delay to win the second game 27-25 after officials conferred to decide a disputed Emerald Ridge serve at 23-all. The back-line official originally called the serve out, but the head official overruled the call. CV argued the call and ultimately the Jaguars served again at 23-all. CV stormed to an 18-10 lead in the third game and held a 7-1 lead in the fourth before Emerald Ridge bounced back.
