Zach Walton scored 16 points in a frenzied first quarter and Morton White-Pass captured its second straight State 2B title, defeating Liberty 72-57 Saturday at the Arena.
Walton's transition dunk in traffic gave the Timberwolves a 16-4 lead with 4:22 left in the first quarter, and sent the MWP bench and crowd into an uproar.
The Lancers couldn't keep pace with the Timberwolves in the first half and couldn't muster a second-half rally.
Walton finished with a game-high 32 points, with 20 coming in the first half. He made 10 of 16 shots, including 3 of 5 3-pointers, and 9 of 11 free throws. He also had nine rebounds and five assists. MWP's Kaleb Poquette added 20 points and six assists.
Liberty, which took fifth place at state last year, got a team-high 25 points from Match Burnham on 8-of-14 shooting. Fellow senior Clay Fleming added 17 points and eight rebounds.
