Summary

Freeman outlasted visiting Newport 63-58 in overtime Saturday in a loser-out game in the District 7 1A Tournament.

The Grizzlies rallied to tie the game in the fourth, as Joshua Smith netted six points in the period and Ty McDaniel made three late free-throws. But Matt Harris scored four of his 10 points in overtime, as the Scotties shut out Newport in the extra session.

Ryan Maine led Freeman with 18 points. Jack Paukert contributed 11 points, five assists and four boards, and Harris added seven rebounds.

McDaniel led the Grizzlies with 18 points and 14 rebounds, as he controlled the paint throughout. Smith tacked on 12 points.

Freeman will now prepare for a date with NEA champs Lakeside on Tuesday in a semifinal matchup.
