Summary

Different day, same result for the Medical Lake boys. Although this one required five extra minutes.

Tellas Johnson tallied 20 points and 11 rebounds, Cory Wagner added 19 points and five steals, and the Cardinals edged Riverside 64-59 in overtime Thursday in a Northeast A League seeding tiebreaker. ML claims the 2nd seed a first-round bye at districts, while Riverside must turn around and host Deer Park Saturday in a loser-out game.

The Rams looked in prime position to pull out the win in regulation, as Jesse Anselm knocked in a three with 12 seconds left to give Riverside a 51-49 lead. But Jaelon Stith took a pass from Johnson and made a layup with a second remaining. Andrew Kramer's full-court heave at the buzzer nearly went it, but bounced off the rim.

In overtime, Wagner and the Rams' Tyler Axtell traded threes, with each making a pair. With ML up one in the waning moments, Donte Brown added a trey of his own to put the Cardinals up four with 15 ticks left. After a Riverside miss, Johnson added a free throw for the final margin.

Brown finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and six assists for ML, while Stith had 10 points and eight boards.

Axtell finished with 26 points on six-of-ten three-point shooting. Anselm netted 12 and Kramer had 11.

The two teams combined to make 20 triples on the night.
