Summary

Alex Chambers scored two goals as Mead secured their spot in the regional tournament with a 3-1 win over visiting University in a District 8 4A first round game on Thursday.

Chambers scored her first directly after the opening kick off. The junior forward collected a through ball from Claire Neder behind the Titan defense, rounded on-rushing U-Hi keeper Ryann Rydeen and slotted the ball into the open net for the early advantage.

Chambers doubled the Panthers advantage two minutes after the half. She collected the ball near midfield, turned and dribbled at the U-Hi defense before cutting inside onto her left foot and fired a shot into the bottom corner with her weaker foot.

Aurora Mackie-Mueller put Mead up 3-0 when she turned in Olivia Sloan's cross after the Panthers elected to play the ball short on a corner.

Julia Adair snatched a consolation goal for University when she prodded home a loose ball in the box.

Ashlyn Juul finished with 8 saves for Mead, who will meet the Central Valley-Lewis and Clark winner on Saturday for the district title. Rydeen turned away 9 shots between the sticks for U-Hi. The Titans will meet the CV-LC loser on Saturday in a winner-to-regional, loser-out match.
