Summary

Shadle Park forced extra innings with a six-run seventh and Leslie Jones hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth to beat visiting Ferris in their Greater Spokane League opener on Thursday. Ferris (0-1) built an early lead with a six-run inning of their own in the third, taking advantage of three Highlanders' errors to score three unearned runs. After Shadle Park (1-0) cut into the Saxon lead with a run in the fourth inning, Michelle Strauss hit a solo home run in the fifth to make it 7-1. Alyssa Wash was able to keep the Shadle bats quiet until the bottom of the seventh, when big hits by Barnes, Jones and Sarah Myers helped the Highlanders tie the game and set up the wild finish. Before Jones' winning hit, Amanda Mapes singled and was moved to third on a double by Myers.
