Summary

Brandon Broersma scored nine of his 19 points in the fourth quarter as the two-time defending state champion Knights ensured themselves a state trophy by pulling away from the Hawks. Sunnyside Christian won the first two 1B titles and then picked up a seventh-place trophy before their last two championships.

Behind Trevor Wagenaar, who scored 14 of his 20 points in the first half, Sunnyside Christian jumped out to an early lead that reached double figures in the first quarter. But the Hawks clamped down, limited the Knights to six points in the second and third quarters to take a 32-31 lead entering the fourth quarter.

An early three-point play by Broersma put Sunnyside back on top for good but they didn't put the game away until the closing minutes. Broersma, a 6-foot-7 junior, hit 9 of 12 shots and also had 14 rebounds and seven blocked shots.

David Greenwood had 16 points and Carsten Neumiller 15 for Mount Rainier, which shot just 30 percent for the game.
