Summary

Valley Christian did just enough down the stretch to get past defending champion Sunnyside Christian in the boys 1B opener.

Craver Small had 12 points and 10 rebounds as the Panthers held off the Knights 47-40 in a first-round battle of tournament favorites.

Sunnyside Christian rallied in the second half, but could never take the lead. Valley Christian’s Noah McConahy hit a key jumper with a minute left to give the Panthers a 44-40 advantage. Valley Christian sealed the deal with three free throws in the final minute.

Brandon Broersma had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Knights.

Valley Christian will take on the Mount Rainier Lutheran/Neah Bay winner in the second round tomorrow.
