The canals and islands of Webb's Slough sits nestled in the rolling hill of the Palouse, just outside St. John, Washington, shown Tuesday, June 11, 20224 as it is being prepared for this weekend's annual sprint boat race, which will draw up to 30 boats around the country and thousands of spectators. Boats will speed around the three-foot-deep course, which is protected by hay bales in places, in a pattern that changes every year. The course is owned by Matt and Amanda Webb, who also farm hay around the race site.
