Phd. student Riley Reed pulls a "frame" of bees from a hive at the new Washington State University bee research facility near Othello, Washington Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022. The facility, a former Monsanto research laboratory, was recently purchased and will allow the entomology grad students to do their own experiments in the field and keep the insects well spread out so that experiements don't get contaminated by other hives nearby. The location of the lab is farther from Pullman than desired, but it was purchased at a discount compared to a proposed new lab, which was going to cost $27 million.
