The 1870 cabin of this early settler was enlarged and then given a board front to be in harmony with the house. It is close to the bluff and was beside a trail traveled before the area was settled. 1973 photo

Colfax firemen worked long hours in the icy waters of the South Palouse forcing debris under the Court House bridge in an effort to keep the river from overflowing its channel, but the water finally won out. Pictures above are firemen shoving debris under the bridge with their pike poles in 1963.
