Ice sculpture challenge with regional arborists and artists
Friday morning, in front of Spirit Pruners on the corner of W. Broadway Ave. and N. Cochran St., owner Kelly Chadwick hosts an ice sculpture challenge with other regional arborists and artists. Drinking beer, laughing and very clearly, even to someone just arriving, these folks are having a great time. If they're not sawing away at their frozen sculpture of a guitar, a peace sign, a swan or a torch, they're huddled around a fire pit, a juxtaposition Robert Frost would be proud of.

A collective of local arborists gathered in West Central to carve ice sculptures. "Compared to wood, the ice is so much fun to carve," Dengler said. "It's like going through butter, and you don't have to worry about the saw kicking back."
