Then and now: Weisfield's Jewelers
Brothers Leo and Sam Weisfield and their brother-in-law Ralph Goldberg had a small watch repair business in Seattle, started in 1917. Before Spokane, they had stores in Seattle, Tacoma, Aberdeen, Bellingham and Mount Vernon.

1950: The finishing touches were being put on the new Weisfield’s jewelry store at Main Avenue and Wall Street in Spokane, which opened May 5, 1950. The modern, two-story store replaced the four-story, brick Stockholm Hotel that was designed by Gustav Pehrson and built in 1890. Weisfield’s, previously Weisfield & Goldberg, was a Seattle company that bought out pioneer Spokane jeweler Daniel F. Wetzel in 1927. Wetzel had opened his store in Spokane in 1887.

Present day: Weisfield’s jewelry store was located in the 1973 bank building at Main Avenue and Wall Street from 1973 until the store closed in the early 1990s. Before 1973, there was a stand-alone Weisfield’s jewelry store on that corner from 1950 to 1972. The Seattle-based jewelry company, which also owned grocery and department stores, also opened stores at University City and NorthTown malls. The last Spokane Weisfield’s store closed around 2000 at NorthTown. The 1973 bank originally was built for Washington Mutual, which was taken over by Chase Bank during the banking crisis in 2008.
